A SaaS integration platform should be selected for the integrations your business must operate and support—not for the size of its connector catalogue. A connector can make a demo look simple. The real buying questions are whether the platform handles data mapping, authentication, retries, monitoring, version changes, throughput and ownership at production scale.
This guide compares eight integration platforms across enterprise iPaaS, API-led integration, business automation and cloud-native integration. It is intended for IT leaders, enterprise architects and operations teams connecting ERP, CRM, ecommerce, finance, HR, data warehouses and other SaaS applications.
Best SaaS integration platforms compared
| Platform | Consider it for | Buyer focus |
|---|---|---|
| Boomi | Broad enterprise integration across applications, data and B2B processes | Hybrid connectivity, reusable integrations, data management and operations |
| MuleSoft Anypoint Platform | API-led architecture and enterprise application integration | API lifecycle, governance, reusable services and developer operating model |
| Workato | Business-led automation across SaaS and enterprise applications | Recipes, connector coverage, governance and task/usage economics |
| SnapLogic | Application and data integration through visual pipelines | Pipeline design, data movement, hybrid connectivity and monitoring |
| Celigo | ERP, ecommerce and order-to-cash integrations | Prebuilt integration flows, data mapping and exception management |
| Jitterbit | Application integration, API management and automation | Connector fit, orchestration, deployment and support model |
| Microsoft Azure Logic Apps | Azure and Microsoft-centric cloud integration | Azure services, connectors, triggers, consumption and operational controls |
| Zapier | Quick no-code connections across common SaaS applications | Ease of use, task limits, app coverage and suitability for critical workflows |
This is a shortlist across related but different product categories. Some platforms are enterprise integration suites; others are more focused on business automation or no-code SaaS workflows. The right choice depends on whether the requirement is API management, application integration, data movement, event orchestration or simple task automation.
What is iPaaS, and when do you need it?
Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) provides cloud-based tools to connect applications, data and processes. It can reduce the need to build and maintain every point-to-point interface separately. Typical capabilities include prebuilt connectors, API connectivity, data transformation, orchestration, scheduling, error handling and monitoring.
iPaaS is not automatically the answer to every integration problem. A direct API integration may be simpler for one stable connection. An enterprise service bus or managed file transfer may be more suitable for certain legacy or high-control environments. A data integration platform may be needed for analytical pipelines. An iPaaS is most useful when an organisation has multiple systems, recurring integration patterns and a need for centralised monitoring and governance.
Gartner’s 2026 iPaaS market research identifies vendors including Boomi, Celigo, Google, IBM, Informatica, Microsoft, MuleSoft, Oracle, SAP, SnapLogic and Workato. This is a useful market reference, not a product ranking or a substitute for a requirements-led evaluation. See the Gartner iPaaS research abstract.
How to assess the leading platforms
Boomi
Evaluate Boomi when you need a broad integration platform spanning applications, data and B2B flows. Test the connectors and adapters for your actual systems, hybrid runtime requirements, reusable components, data mapping and monitoring. Ask how development, deployment and production support are separated, and how the commercial model scales with endpoints, environments or usage.
MuleSoft Anypoint Platform
MuleSoft is a candidate for organisations adopting API-led connectivity and formal API lifecycle management. Evaluate API design, security policies, reuse, developer experience, deployment topology and the effort required to govern APIs across teams. It can be more platform than a small organisation needs if the requirement is only a handful of straightforward SaaS synchronisations.
Workato
Workato is relevant when business teams need to automate cross-application processes while IT retains governance. Test recipe ownership, connection management, error handling, environment separation and the effort required to debug multi-step workflows. Model costs against expected transaction volume and the way the platform measures usage.
SnapLogic
SnapLogic should be considered when visual pipeline development and a combination of application and data integration are important. Validate its fit for the organisation’s data sources, transformations, throughput, orchestration and operational monitoring. Use a representative pipeline rather than relying on a preconfigured demo.
Celigo
Celigo is particularly relevant to buyers evaluating ERP, ecommerce and order-management integrations. Test the exact systems and process flows involved: orders, inventory availability, fulfilment, returns, refunds, customer records and financial reconciliation. A packaged connector is only valuable if it supports the required data model, exception paths and business rules.
Jitterbit
Evaluate Jitterbit for application and API integration requirements where its connectors, deployment model and integration tooling match the estate. Ask the vendor to demonstrate how mappings are versioned, how failed records are replayed and how support teams trace a transaction across multiple systems.
Microsoft Azure Logic Apps
Azure Logic Apps is a strong candidate when the integration architecture is already centred on Azure. Microsoft documents connectors, triggers and workflow capabilities for connecting services and applications. Assess consumption, connector tiers, networking, identity, monitoring and the operational skills needed to manage workflows. See Microsoft’s Logic Apps overview.
Zapier
Zapier can be effective for straightforward no-code SaaS workflows and departmental automation. It is not a default substitute for an enterprise integration architecture. Before using it for a critical ERP or finance process, validate access controls, task limits, audit requirements, error recovery, data residency and the ability to support complex transformations.
Choose the integration pattern before choosing the vendor
| Pattern | Example | Evaluation priority |
|---|---|---|
| Application synchronisation | CRM accounts and contacts synchronised with ERP customers | Master-data ownership, conflict handling and update direction |
| Transaction orchestration | Web order to ERP order, warehouse fulfilment and customer notification | Idempotency, retries, duplicate prevention and status visibility |
| API management | Expose governed services to internal teams and external partners | Authentication, versioning, rate limits and lifecycle governance |
| Data movement | ERP transactions loaded into a warehouse for analytics | Incremental loads, schema changes, data quality and latency |
| Event-driven integration | Inventory update triggers downstream availability changes | Event ordering, delivery guarantees and replay strategy |
| File or B2B exchange | EDI orders and invoices with trading partners | Standards, acknowledgements, partner onboarding and exception handling |
The integration failure questions buyers often miss
Do not stop the demo when the happy path succeeds. Ask the vendor to deliberately fail a transaction. What happens if the target system is unavailable, a required field is missing, an API rate limit is reached or a source record changes while the integration is running?
For every interface, define a system of record, a data owner, a support owner, a retry policy, an alert threshold and a reconciliation method. A workflow that reports “successful” execution but silently drops a business record is not a reliable integration.
How to calculate iPaaS total cost of ownership
Compare more than subscription price. Commercial models may be based on tasks, executions, connectors, endpoints, environments, API calls, data volume, capacity or a negotiated enterprise agreement. Ask vendors to price the same workload and disclose what happens when volumes increase.
- Platform subscription and usage charges.
- Implementation, connector configuration and custom development.
- Runtime, networking, gateways and infrastructure where applicable.
- Monitoring, alerting, logging and retention.
- Support, upgrades, testing and connector maintenance.
- Internal integration engineering and business ownership.
- Failure handling, reconciliation and operational downtime.
Estimate expected monthly transaction volume, peak throughput, number of integrations, average steps per transaction and retention requirements. Then test a high-growth scenario. A low entry price can become expensive when each additional task or connector is billable.
Proof-of-concept checklist
- Connect one ERP, one CRM and one third-party SaaS system.
- Synchronise a record with parent-child relationships and custom fields.
- Simulate an API outage and validate retry and replay behaviour.
- Send a duplicate event and test idempotency.
- Change a source schema and observe how the integration responds.
- Trace one transaction end to end using logs and correlation IDs.
- Test role separation, credential rotation and audit access.
- Measure build effort, operating effort and projected usage cost.
Bottom line
Boomi, MuleSoft, Workato, SnapLogic, Celigo, Jitterbit, Azure Logic Apps and Zapier serve different integration needs. Shortlist them based on integration patterns, application estate, governance, technical ownership and usage economics. For enterprise buyers, operational reliability and failure visibility are often more important than connector count.
For the broader architecture behind ERP connections, read SeerOmega’s ERP integration strategy guide. If ecommerce is the main requirement, a dedicated ERP and ecommerce integration evaluation should test order, inventory, fulfilment and returns flows in detail.
Editorial note: Product packaging, connectors, limits and pricing change. Confirm current capabilities and commercial terms directly with vendors. Vendor inclusion is not an endorsement or a claim of independent performance testing.
